HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS

It is heartbreaking as a parent to watch your child sitting alone, not having a friend to talk to or play with, but knowing they desperately want to be included. This is something I hear from parents every day: "My child has a hard time making friends".

 
At Kids Connect Today, we give toddlers, children, teens and young adults the skills necessary to have a friend and to become a friend. In order to become a friend you need to learn about others, we need to learn how to listen. What are their interests? What are their likes and dislikes? What makes them happy? What makes them sad?

To learn how to have a friend we need to learn conversation skills. How to begin a conversation, maintain a conversation and end a conversation appropriately. Finding out what the other person likes not just talking about our own interests. We will find out what interests we have in common and what can we learn from each other.

We learn these social skills by practicing with our peers in a safe, nurturing environment. The classes are integrated with neurotypical peers who serve as the social role models.
